PSF and acetone. It won't have the 'damn right I am mechanically inclined' smell of WD40, but it works about 5 times as well for less than half the price.

Could we use ATF as a substitute for PSF, considering how they're both hydraulic fluid?

This is probably not representative of a quick squirt just before a wrench is applied.

Years of experience tells me PB Blaster works very well. Much much better than WD-40.

WD40 is garbage for getting through rust. Liquid Wrench is ok, but if PB Blaster (which I actually find better than Liquid Wrench) doesn't get it I use ATF and acetone.

Totally trying this. Been using PB Blaster for years with mixed results. Thanks for sharing!
Now I just need to find a spray bottle that won't get eaten away by that mix.

Considering a large amount of vehicles use ATF as their PSF, I think you'd be safe to do so.

Yep. Quick squirt to get through rust (not this soak for 8 hours bullshit), and it's PB Blaster.

I would like to see the "quick squirt just before a wrench is applied." analysis because I am usually too lazy or have the foresight to spray things I intend to unbolt until I actually need to unbolt it.
But this is great! I will get a mason jar and make my own rusty bolt hooch!

anyone happen to know what makes Wd-40 smell so good?
